The Proliferation of State Actions Limiting Youth Access to Gender Affirming Care - Kaiser Family Foundation

Over the past 2 years, we have seen a significant rise in legislation across state legislatures targeting the LGBTQ+ community—with a more than five-fold increase in state policies restricting or prohibiting minor access to gender affirming care. A both chilling and informative analysis released by KFF documents this policy landscape and shows nearly 40% of trans youth in the United States living in a state with a law/policy that limits their access to this vital care.

While this data is upsetting, it will not stop SFCHC's commitment in fighting for greater protections for gender affirming care not only in California but nationwide. As the American Medical Association makes clear, gender affirming care is "medically necessary, evidenced based care" that impacts the mental & physical well-being of trans and gender non-conforming people.
