San Francisco Community Health Center Celebrates Filipino American History Month

San Francisco, CA — San Francisco Community Health Center (SFCHC) celebrates Filipino American History Month (FAHM) this October by hosting the first SOMA Pilipinas Pride: MakiBeki on October 12, 2025 at the Yerba Buena Center of the Arts in San Francisco, CA from 12 PM to 5 PM. Admission is free, but we encourage folks to sign up. This event, organized by our API programs: The Lotus Project & Stop the Hate program, celebrates LGBTQ+ Filipinx members of San Francisco. This celebration coincides with Filipino History Month, honoring the cultural heritage, resilience, and vital contributions of the Filipino American community to the city and nation.

This year’s national FAHM theme, “Empowering Our Community Through History, Health, and Healing,” resonates deeply with our mission. As a healthcare organization rooted in social justice and inclusion, SFCHC stands in solidarity with the Filipino community in the fight for health equity and cultural recognition. Community partners for this event are SOMA Pilipinas and Facine.  Filipino Americans have long been integral to San Francisco’s cultural and social fabric—from frontline health workers and caregivers to activists and artists—and SFCHC is committed to ensuring that their stories, struggles, and successes are seen.

Throughout October, SFCHC will host and support a series of community events including:

  • Special screening of “Unconditional” (Wednesday, Oct 8) at Sentro Filipino (814 Mission St, SF, CA). A unique love story about breaking love and gender barriers.

  • SOMA Pilipinas Pride: Makibeki (Sunday, Oct 12) a celebration of LGBTQ+ Filipino community members. The three-part event consists of a press conference launching the event, followed by the SOMA Pilipinas Pride Procession, and closes with a resource fair with featured performers from Drag Race Philippines: Dee Marie Holiday & John Fedellaga.

San Francisco Community Health Center invites all community members to join in honoring the legacy and future of Filipino Americans. Follow @sfcommunityhealth on social media or visit www.sfcommunityhealth.org for a full list of events.
